Mauricio Romero is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and Co-Editor of the Journal of Development Economics. His research examines the constraints that governments face in providing public services, including education, health care, and environmental protection. He also works on methodological questions in applied econometrics and statistics. He holds undergraduate degrees in economics and mathematics from Universidad de los Andes and a PhD in economics from the University of California, San Diego. He is affiliated with Innovations for Poverty Action and J-PAL and is a Jacobs Foundation Research Fellow (2024–2026).
