Igor Asanov heads the Evidence-Based Science and Innovation Policy Research Group at INCHER, Faculty of Economics, University of Kassel, and is a J-PAL Invited Researcher. He holds a PhD in economics from a joint program of the Max Planck Institute of Economics and Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He conducts large-scale randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on entrepreneurship, labor markets, and education, with extensive fieldwork in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. For instance, he co-leads the "Showing Life Opportunities" (SLO) program, which has reached more than 45,000 students with support from the World Bank, IPA, IGL, and the Ministry of Education of Ecuador. In Vietnam, he works with the World Bank on a large-scale social-emotional learning RCT covering 58,000 students. His broader research spans meta-science and research integrity, innovation and science policy, machine learning, and the role of AI. Recent work has appeared in Nature Human Behaviour, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice.
