Jessa Cruz, IPA Philippines Policy Associate, was invited to be a resource speaker at the Department of Education's 2nd National Planning Conference from October 10-12, 2017. Held at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City, the theme for the annual planning conference was "Evidence-based Planning through Research and Innovations." Jessa presented on two session topics: Theory of Change and Preparing for Program Evaluation. The conference was attended by approximately 700 Department of Education personnel in charge of planning, research and M&E.

IPA Kenya participated in the 10th round table meeting of the Permanent Working Group (PWG) on TVET that was held at the Karen Technical Training Institute for the Deaf (KTTID). Organized under the theme of Inclusion, the meeting brought together key actors in the TVET sector including government, private sector, donors and non-state actors who are also members of the PWG.

IPA's study Mentoring and Experiential Learning for Early Education Student Teachers in Ghana was featured as a "quick fire" talk at UKFIET's conference Learning and Teaching for Sustainable Development: Curriculum, Cognition and Context in Oxford, United Kingdom. Participants discussed how curriculum—what is learned and taught—contributes to education's influence on sustainable development. Dominic Bond, the Managing Director of Sabre UK, presented the study.

On August 30, 2017, IPA Liberia presented preliminary results of the first year of the Partnership Schools for Liberia (PSL) study to the President of Liberia and the Cabinet. Under the Partnership Schools for Liberia (PSL) program, the Government of Liberia delegated management of 93 public schools to eight operators: BRAC, Bridge International Academies, Youth Movement for Collective Action2, More than Me, Omega Schools, Rising Academies, Stella Maris, and Street Child.

Innovations for Poverty Action Zambia co-presented with the Varkey Foundation on August 23-24th in Lusaka. The theme of the event, the Forum for African Woman Educationalists (FAWE) at the 10th General Assembly, was "Towards Gender Equality in Education, Positioning Youth to Champion Africa’s Education Agenda." This high-level conference was attended by The First Lady of the Republic of Zambia (pictured on right), Ministers of Education from the region, and international and local NGOs.

IPA Philippines conducted workshop entitled "Introduction to Theory of Change" for the Policy Research and Development Division (PRD) of the Department of Education of the Philippines on August 15, 2017. PRD is tasked with promoting evidence-based decision-making and developing evaluation standards across the Department of Education. The workshop focused on how to use the development of a theory of change as a tool for monitoring and evaluation. Sixteen PRD staff attended the workshop at the DepEd Complex in Pasig City, Philippines.

English On August 4th, IPA Paraguay and the Ministry of Education (MEC) co-hosted the event “Generating Impact: Innovation and Evidence for Public Policy in Education.” The event took place in Asunción, Paraguay. With the objective of contributing to the debate on policy decisions in education, the event presented the state of experimental evidence on education, the insights of behavioral economics applied to education, and the use and generation of evidence in the public sector.
IPA Myanmar Co-Hosts Stakeholder Workshop for Millennium Challenge Corporation's Vocational Education Project in Mongolia

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, IPA, along with the Millennium Challenge Corporation and Government of Mongolia, hosted a local stakeholder workshop for the final results of the evaluation of Millennium Challenge Corporation's Vocational Education Training Project in Mongolia. This event was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and included 60 attendees from the Government of Mongolia and donor community working on vocational education in Mongolia. IPA Myanmar Country Representative Jihae Hong presented, along with Ofer Malamud, Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago.

The UNAIDS Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on Education and School Health, and UNESCO as a secretariat, hosted the 2017 IATT Symposium and Members Meeting in Lusaka, Zambia on May 10th and 11th May. The theme for the symposium was Lessons from Implementing HIV and school initiatives; exploring gaps and opportunities for gender responsive programming in education.

The Permanent Working Group on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is a platform of engagement that was created to incorporate government, the private sector, academia, NGOs, and development partners to jointly oversee the efforts of the sustainable transformation of Kenya’s vocational training system.
