On August 6, 2018, IPA and Ghana’s Ministry of Education (MoE) partnered to host an “Evidence Day” kicking off the Ministry’s annual sector review. The event showcased the ongoing co-creation of evidence in Ghana between IPA and MoE and connected this evidence with the real-time education policymaking occurring during the week’s annual sector planning.

On June 22, IPA and the International Growth Centre (IGC), in collaboration with the Zambian Ministry of General Education (MoGE), hosted a policy dissemination event on results from a study titled “The Allocation of Teachers across Public Schools in Zambia” led by Torsten Figueiredo Walter (London School of Economics). The event was attended by 30 stakeholders including representatives from the MoGE and members of civil society.
IPA Peru Presents Preliminary Results of an Evaluation on Early Childhood Science Education Evaluation in Paraguay

From June 6-7, IPA Peru presented preliminary results of the evaluation Tikichuela Science (Tikichuela, Ciencias en mi Escuela) in two regional events held in Asuncion, Paraguay. During 2017, IPA and researchers partnered with Paraguay’s Ministry of Education and Science (MEC) and the Interamerican Development Bank to evaluate the effects on student achievement of an interactive radio instruction (IRI) and inquiry-based curriculum for early childhood science education.

On April 16, IPA Peru shared preliminary results of an impact evaluation conducted with the Peruvian Ministry of Education. The study evaluated the effectiveness of information campaigns in increasing students' and parents' understanding of the returns to education and reducing school dropout and child labor in rural and urban areas.
IPA Associate Director of Business and Program Development Joins Panel at Columbia University's African Economic Forum

On April 7, IPA Associate Director of Business and Program Development Faith McCollister participated in a panel discussion on youth unemployment at the 2018 African Economic Forum, held at Columbia University. The panel focused on the complex causes of youth unemployment in Africa and potential solutions to alleviate the problems it presents. During the discussion, McCollister noted the lack of an evidence-backed "silver bullet" for solving unemployment and emphasized the need for ongoing rigorous research.

Innovations for Poverty Action's research and policy work was highlighted in a pair of panel sessions at the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) Annual Conference in Mexico City this month. On November 25, 2017, Juan Manuel Hernández-Agramonte, IPA Country Director for Perú, Bolivia, and Paraguay, gave a TED Talk at TedxTukuy in Lima. The video of the TED Talk was recently released this year and can be viewed below. Juan focused his talk on how government can achieve high impact by partnering with academics to propose innovative policies that are tested using randomized controlled trials. He presented two successful case studies of policy innovation that were conducted with the Peruvian Ministry of Education.
