María Teresa is an economist at the IDB for Nicaragua. Prior to this work, she worked as a consultant for the Bank's Labor Markets Division, where she coordinated the Retirement Savings Laboratory. She has a degree in Economics from the Universidad de las Américas Puebla and a master's degree in Public Policy from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. She has served as advisor to the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare in Mexico and as director of Social Policy and Employment in the Coordination of Advisors to the President of Mexico. He has also worked in various international organizations such as ECLAC, the European Commission and the German Cooperation for Development.
