IPA Research on Rural Electrification Featured in Forbes

IPA-affiliated researcher Keneth Lee writes in Forbes about his evaluation with Catherine Wolfram, Ted Miguel, and IPA-Kenya. They found that, counter to conventional wisdom, connecting rural households in Kenya to the electrical supply had no statistically significant effects on income, employment or educational achievement. Lee argues that "Lifting people out of poverty may require a more comprehensive approach to ensure that electricity is not only affordable, but is also reliable, useable, and available to the whole community, paired with other important investments".
