Anemia among women of reproductive age remains an intractable public health problem in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), especially in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) where 38% and 46% of non-pregnant and pregnant women of reproductive age, respectively, are anemic. The Invisible Fishers project aims to develop, adapt and pilot test the feasibility of a set of interventions aimed at empowering and safeguarding women in fisheries value chains in Ghana to reduce anemia. This pilot study being carried out in two regions in Ghana — the Central and Volta Regions. The baseline and midline data collection phases happened in 2018, and currently a 9-month intervention (3 treatment arms) is underway. IPA is planning to conduct the endline data collection starting April 2019.

Partners on this study are the University of Ghana, Viamo, and Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV).

Position Summary:  

The Invisible Fishers project is looking to hire a student volunteer starting preferably in February to help support the testing of these survey instruments in the various locations of the country. The student volunteer will work closely with the project team in Accra, to support mainly data related work on the study.  In particular, the student volunteer will support the development of a data management system for the endline data collection, and the data analysis and reporting (baseline – endline) on the study. During data collection, s/he will help with field team management, running data checks, communicating with field teams daily and recommending improvements to the survey instruments

  • Completed undergraduate degree in Economics, Development Studies, Public Health, or related;
  • Strong Stata programming skills (level will be tested);
  • Proficient in English;
  • Good writing skills.
  • Self-starter, resourceful and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
