IPA Paraguay has collaborated with policymakers on several policy-relevant studies. From 2011-2015, an IPA research team worked with the Ministry of Education and the Inter-American Development Bank to evaluate the impact of a pilot mathematics program. The study found that the program helped narrow learning gaps between low- and high-performing students, and between students with trained and under-trained teachers.

 

In response to these findings, Paraguay’s Ministry of Education and Culture decided to scale up the program, which has expanded to reach schools in 7 of Paraguay’s 17 Departments. The Ministry also partnered with IPA and researchers to pilot a program that uses the same methodology for science instruction.
