On July 5, IPA Myanmar, in partnership with the International Growth Centre (IGC) and the Myanmar Development Institute (MDI), co-hosted a conference at the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw. The objective was to bring together thought leaders from academia and government, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss the international experience and evidence on targeted poverty alleviation programs and their implications for the Myanmar context. Professors Dean Karlan, Robin Burgess, and Paul Niehaus spoke in the plenary session, after which, international and national speakers discussed programs in five areas: graduation out of extreme poverty, financial inclusion, cash transfers, employment guarantee, and community-driven development programs.
