Alissa Fishbane, Managing Director
Alissa Fishbane oversees the Deworm the World Initiative's global operations and technical assistance teams to support the scale-up of school-based deworming programs in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin America. Previously at IPA, she was Latin America Director and Mexico Country Director, where she established country operations in 2006. Over the past decade, she has managed and implemented research, evaluation and scale-up projects across several countries, with a focus on health, education and microfinance. Alissa received her BA from the University of California, Berkeley and her MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School.
Dr. Karen Levy, Regional Director, Africa
Dr. Karen Levy is a Senior Director at Innovations for Poverty Action. Her current work focuses on the development and implementation of school-based health policies and programs, particularly related to deworming. From 2006 through 2010, she served as Kenya Country Director for IPA. Since January of 2009, Karen has also served as Regional Director for Africa of Deworm the World. In this role, she works with senior government health and education officials, providing technical and logistical support for the design, implementation, and monitoring of national school-based deworming programs. The first program she worked on in Kenya successfully reached over 3.6 million children. Karen received a BA with Honors from Brown University in 1994, an MSc with Distinction in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics in 2000, and a PhD in Development Planning from the University of London in 2008. Karen was awarded the sole university-wide Bonnart-Braunthal Scholarship for her doctoral research, and a Public Service Fellowship from the Echoing Green Foundation for her leadership as a social entrepreneur. She has lived in Kenya for 14 of the last 18 years and speaks fluent Swahili.
Laban Kilui, Technical Coordinator
Provides technical support to the Ministry of Education, working in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in the nationwide roll out of school based deworming program for school age children. Previously worked for International Child Support, a Dutch NGO in various capacities as Program Manager Western Kenya, Assistant Program Manager Evaluation & Development, Program Coordinator HIV/AIDS Education Evaluation, Coordinator Extra Teacher Provision and Primary Schools Deworming Program (PSDP research) for 9 years. Laban studied Public Health and Health Education at Kenya Medical Training College and has an Advanced Diploma in Public Health, a Diploma with distinction in the control and management of HIV/AIDS from Kenyatta University respectively and a Diploma in Community Health from Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development-Nairobi.

Deworm the World is an initiative of Innovations for Poverty Action. DtW brings together governments and partner organizations around the world committed to improving children’s health and education by massively expanding national and statewide deworming programs.
Donate
Donations for deworming go far. School-based deworming has proven impact on children's health, cognitive abilities and school attendance. Through advocating for sustainable government action, this initiative has helped reach over 37 million children through massive scale-up including 17 million school-age children in Bihar, India, and is targeting additional children in Delhi, India, Nigeria, and Liberia.
